LOCAL PRODUCTS

Discover local products such as mountain cheeses, artisanal cured meats and the famous rye bread. A typical product not to be missed is Zincarlin from the Muggio Valley, a raw curd cheese produced only in the valley, recognized by Slow Food. It is made with raw cow's milk, sometimes enriched with goat's milk, and is aged in natural cellars, where it is washed with white wine to develop a yellow-reddish crust and an intense and aromatic flavor.

VILLAGES AND RURAL ARCHITECTURE

The Muggio Valley is an authentic treasure chest of history and tradition, where each village tells centuries-old stories through its architecture and the surrounding landscape. In 2014, the Swiss Foundation for Landscape Protection recognized the valley as the "most beautiful landscape in Switzerland", a title that reflects its extraordinary beauty and authenticity.

1.Muggio

The beating heart of the valley, Muggio is a village where time seems to have stopped. Its narrow streets, stone houses and historic churches offer an immersion in rural Ticino life. The Parish Church is noteworthy, with frescoes and works of art that testify to the rich religious tradition of the place.

2.Cabbio

Home to the Ethnographic Museum of the Muggio Valley, Cabbio is a living example of cultural heritage conservation. The village also hosts historic buildings built by families of internationally renowned architects, such as the Cantoni di Cabbio.

3.Rocapiano

Situated at 900 metres above sea level, Roncapiano is the highest village in the valley. Surrounded by pastures and woods, it offers breathtaking panoramic views and an atmosphere of absolute tranquility. The Oratory of the Blessed Giuliana Falconieri, built in the 19th century, is one of its architectural jewels

4.Other villages

The valley also includes other charming villages such as Bruzella, Caneggio, Casima, Castel San Pietro, Monte, Campora, Morbio Superiore and Sagno. Each of these villages preserves distinctive elements of rural Ticino architecture, such as dry stone walls, "nevère" (ancient icehouses) and "roccoli" (structures for hunting birds).
